Reception

Welcome to Reception!
Friday 23rd October 2020
Reception started the week with a special Commando Joe mission! The children had to locate the mission card and use the COJO box to complete the tasks. We had to help carry water over an obstacle course without dropping any! The children showed great teamwork and encouragement to one another. We had lots of fun and thought about how well we work together!
We have been exploring shape this week, looking at 2D and 3D shapes. The children enjoyed hunting for shapes around the classroom and in the outdoor area, as well as creating shapes in Forest School.
Our class book this week has been 'Oi Frog' where we have been listening out for rhyming words, as well as exploring rhyme in the classroom. The children have matched pictures and words and even written some of their own rhyming words! The cat on the mat. The fox in the box! Super work.

I hope you have a lovely half term.
See you in a week!

This week the children have been busy thinking about what we see in Autumn, the types of weather we get and the animals that are busy collecting food. We have learnt about different vegetables that are harvested at the beginning of Autumn. The children enjoyed exploring a range of these in the classroom.
In RE, we continued to learn about Judaism and the children had very creative ideas about how to make a menorah!
In Maths, we have been busy thinking about how to represent numbers up to 10 in a different ways - using Numicon, drawing pictures, using autumn leaves & conkers, as well as writing the matching numeral.
The children have also been enjoying rhymes and riddles which is something we are going to focus on next week. Try think of some rhyming words at home over the weekend!

*Special Mission*
Reception also received a letter about a special mission they need to complete on Monday. We are very excited!
Don't forget to wear your PE kits to school!
Be prepared and have a 'can do it' attitude!

Have a great weekend everybody!

This week we have enjoyed reading our class text Leaf Man. We started the week with an Autumn walk - it was very wet and rainy! We used our checklist to see what signs of Autumn there were around school. The children all had a go at writing what they had seen on the walk!
Using leaves from our Autumn walk, the children created their own Leaf Man picture. We thought about the other leaf animals we saw in the story.
In RE, we have started learning about Judaism and the celebration of Hanukkah. The children enjoy learning about the menorah and have started to create their own using Lego, play doh and collage materials.
In Maths, we have explored numbers up to 10 by counting forwards and backwards and matching amounts to the correct numeral.

Well done to everyone for your super efforts with home reading! Keep up the fab work!

We have had another fantastic week in Reception! The children have explored new letter sounds - t, i, n and p. There have been lots of challenges to use our letters to make words - pat, pin, tin, mad, sat.
We have talked about ourselves and our families, thinking about how we are special and unique. We have thought about what is special in our family - a song, a cuddle, a story!
On Thursday, we took our first trip to Forest School with Miss Owens! We had lots of fun exploring and discovering what was there! As well as practicing our Maths linked to numbers 1, 2 and 3!

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you on Monday for another busy week!
