We are exploring the signs of spring including other animal lifecycles, and will begin exploring plants further next week.

Happy New Year!
During this lockdown blogs will not be updated weekly while we continue to teach in school and deliver home learning. I hope you understand. We look forward to welcoming all the children back soon.
Well done to everyone for a fantastic start to the spring term, both at home and in school. I have been very impressed with the amazing work that has been happening at home and the work the children have completed in school! You are all super stars!
We have been adding numbers this week and even added 3 single digit numbers together.
The children have recapped their phonic sounds and we will be working through the set 2 digraphs (special friends).
I hope everyone managed to enjoy the snow today! We enjoyed exploring in the snow at school. We listened to the sound it made as we worked and how it felt on our hands. A great way to explore the signs of winter weather!
I look forward to next week and seeing all the learning that the children take part in! I hope you have a lovely snowy weekend!

When we went back to class, the children wrote letters to Santa to tell him what they would like for Christmas!
The children enjoyed Christmas lunch on Thursday and myself and Ms Owens joined the children! It was delicious!
The children we very excited for party day today. We played lots of games, had a disco dance and enjoyed lots of yummy treats!

In Maths, we have been focusing on one more and one less using practical objects, as well as quick recall of these number facts!
Father Johnathan came to visit on Thursday. He told us about the birth of Jesus and we asked him lots of questions. We finished off by sharing one of our Christmas songs with him!

Have a wonderful weekend!
See you on Monday!
Thursday 3rd December 2020
This week we have been focusing on the text Stick Man. The children have enjoyed retelling the story using actions, puppets and a story map. We have created Stick Man using natural sticks, wool, string, tape and glue to develop our fine motor skills!
In Maths, the children have been learning about doubling numbers. We have used practical resources such as counters and Numicon to help us with our double knowledge. We are writing the matching number sentence e.g. 4 + 4 = 8
In RE, we are continuing to learn about Birthdays and have been thinking about the lead up to the birth of Jesus. We have discussed Advent and how it is a time of preparing. The children enjoyed creating Advent wreaths in Forest school.
We were very excited that our stage has been put up for our Nativity performance! The children had their first practice on the stage!
Friday 20th November 2020
Reception enjoyed 'Odd Sock Day' on Monday and decorated a pair of their own. We have been thinking a lot abut how to be a good friend and how it is important to be kind to each other. The children created anti-bullying bands and a friendship chain for Anti-Bullying Week.
In Maths, we have been learning about measurement (length and height). The children have enjoyed comparing their heights and putting themselves in order. We have been using language such as tall, taller, tallest, short, shorter, shortest and long, longer and longest. We have ordering different objects by length and begun to measure these using non-standard units of measure. We measured the different lengths of sticks and measured them using blocks and cubes e.g. the stick is 12 cubes long. We introduced rulers and how these are a way to measure length. The children enjoyed trying to find objects that were longer and shorter than the ruler!
Can you see what you could measure at home? Do you have anything really tall in your house? Or anything that is very long? Could you measure it with an item in your house?
Next week in Phonics, we will be recapping and consolidating all the sounds we have learnt to date. Your child may not receive a new sound in their sound book but do keep practicing any they find tricky or focus on 'special friends' - ch, sh, th, qu, ng, nk, ck.

Have a super weekend!
Friday 13th November 2020
Reception have had a brilliant week! We have been very busy and enjoyed learning about lots of different special days.
Our topic 'Materials' has been very popular with the children and they have impressed me with their fantastic knowledge! We can name lots of different materials as well as explain what they are like. The children enjoyed our experiment testing different materials forks to see which was best to pick up rice, pasta and beans! We had super predictions and gave super explanations as to why they though a certain material - bendy, strong, hard, flexible, floppy! Super vocabulary.
We learnt about Remembrance day on Wednesday and the children enjoyed making poppy biscuits.
In RE, we learnt about Baptism and looked at how babies are welcomed into the church and God's family. The children enjoyed practicing a baptism with our dolls in the water area. We talked about how you can be any age when you are baptised but lots of us are baptised when we are babies.
On Friday, we loved coming to school in our onesies, pyjamas and spotty clothes to support Children in Need. We learnt about how some children have different lives to us.
We also looked at the Hindu festival of Diwali, which is celebrated on Saturday. The children enjoyed exploring the different colours and light of Diwali as well as listening to the story of Rami and Sita. The children made Rangoli patterns, practiced Henna art and role played the story of Rama and Sita. We learnt that Hindu's also use fireworks to celebrate Diwali like people do for Bonfire Night.
Look out for any fireworks on Saturday night! These will be to celebrate Diwali.

We celebrated bonfire night by learning about Guy Fawkes and looking at a range of firework displays. The children used oil pastels to create their own firework pictures. We also went to forest school with Miss Owens to collect items to make a bonfire. We learnt that you have to have dry leaves to make a fire!
We also celebrated our school Feast Day on Wednesday where the children completed our special mission to re-design our school looking. We really enjoyed our special treat as well!
Next week we will continue to explore materials and embed our knowledge through our enquiry question - Can you make a fork out of paper?
Let the experimenting begin!
I hope you have a great weekend!

This week we have enjoyed reading our class text Leaf Man. We started the week with an Autumn walk - it was very wet and rainy! We used our checklist to see what signs of Autumn there were around school. The children all had a go at writing what they had seen on the walk!
Using leaves from our Autumn walk, the children created their own Leaf Man picture. We thought about the other leaf animals we saw in the story.
